Every Sunday at 10:00am middle school kids meet in the sanctuary at Trinity Church to enjoy worship with the Body of Christ. We then move from the sanctuary down to Subcity, the basement at Trinity.
This is a cozy and comfortable place that helps kids to feel that they can be themselves and bring their real problems out to the surface in the company of peers, all of whom respect each other and are non-judging. We often have moments where we can all share about our lives and the impact or occasionally the non-impact that Christ has on it.
We attempt to build those connections between the Bible and our lives, taking the time to decide if our actions are meeting with standards and commandments that God has given us. Ultimately, no subject that is brought to attention, as long as it is asked sincerely, is ignored. We are all given a voice to speak what we truly feel. Here is a place where we can be safe from judgment and the pressures of everyday life. Here we can come to God as a group and learn better ways of loving Him, our families, and ourselves.
After Bible study, which ends around the same time as church at 11:30, we have a time that serves as a time for peace where we are allowed to just rest from the week of school in the presence of God. This time can be used for conversation, prayer, games, or quiet time. The set time for the group to end is 1:00pm.

Hello from Youth First! Some of you may be thinking “What’s Youth First?” Youth First puts teens in the city—that are often left behind—first. We are committed to bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to teens in the Los Angeles area. Youth First’s Westside group meets at Trinity Church. Eight experienced volunteers serve about 30 students from Santa Monica High School.
We meet with our students every Tuesday night at 7:15pm sharp (we are done at 9pm) downstairs in the church’s really cool basement called Sub City. This is a great time to cut loose and draw new students to our ministry. Tuesday night is a place where our students can just be kids—where they can break away from the pressures they face daily to “fit the mold.” Often it seems that our leaders are the biggest kids of all, as we lead our students in games, skits on the stage and activities that are set up to break down barriers. At the end of each club, one of our leaders gives a 10-15 minute Gospel message and often times we break up into small groups which serve as a time for students to ask questions and further discuss God.
In addition to the weekly activities on Tuesday evenings, at least once a year we try to get a group together to get out into nature to see God’s creation first hand. Whether this is backpacking in Yosemite, camping on Catalina Island or attending a more formal camp setting like Woodleaf in Northern California, our goals are to always love and respect our students and to give them a firm foundation of God’s love for them as individuals (His beloved) as they prepare to move beyond the High School years of their lives.
